Synthesis and Characterization of Niobium Pentoxide Thin Films for DSSC Application
In this study, Niobium pentoxide (Nb20s) thin films shall be deposited on FTO glass substrates using the simple and inexpensive spray pyrolysis technique. Niobium pentachloride (NbCls) shall be used as the precursor. A solution shall be prepared by dissolving Niobium pentachloride in distilled water to which hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid shall be added. The deposition parameters of the niobium thin films such as temperature, nozzle distance, spray discharge rate, spray duration and substrate temperature shall be varied. The sprayed solution shall undergo evaporation, condensation and thermal decomposition resulting in formation of niobium pentoxide thin films. Sheet resistivity and sheet resistance of the films shall be determined by using the four point probe method connected to Keithley 2400 source meter. The structures of films obtained under different temperatures shall be characterized by use of XRD. The optical characteristics of the films shall be determined using the shimadzu model DUV 3700 spectrophotometer. The spectrometer measures reflectance, absorption and transmittance of the films. Other parameters like band gap energy, absorption coefficient and thickness shall be calculated using proprietary SCOUT software.
